INNER DARK BARBIES
INNER DARK BARBIES is LAURAKOKAI's fall-winter 2023 capsule collection, the leading pieces of which are satin shawls closely related to the name of the collection, and visually strongly matching bags and vests are also among the pieces. The designer reflects on the Barbie phenomenon that has been going on for some time in an alternative way. Against the perfection of the kitsch-based Barbie world, the graphics crowded with female figures appearing on the collection's shawls want to highlight the opposite, that these black and white "Barbies" are equally valuable people to society. With their imperfection, their vulnerability, and their traumas and problems spanning generations, they can also be called perfect. What they have in common is that they are strong women fighting for their goals, true femme fatales, who appear unshakeable in the graphics. The wearers of the products are us, ordinary people, anyone who can and wants to identify with the message of the collection, giving a visual statement to the world.
